Peggy Jean Isaacs Essick

Peggy Jean Isaacs Essick, age 91, of Winston-Salem passed into the immediate presence of her Lord and Savior on January 13, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her family.  She was born in Forsyth County to the late Columbus Washington (C. W.) and Rosa Mae Loflin Isaacs on November 1, 1929.   Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Edward Essick, Sr. and three brothers; William, Robert and Thomas Alexander (T. A.).

Peggy married Hal E. Essick, Sr. on November 2, 1947.    They were married for almost 73 years.  She is survived by three sons: Hal E. Jr. (Wendy) of Lexington, Joel R. (Carol), Jeffrey D. (LeAnne) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren: Jonathan, Amanda, Joshua (Paige), Zachary, Chadwick (Nicole), Emily, Kelly and Cara (Dillon); great-grandchildren:  Payton, McKenzie, Braxton, Kendall, Henry and Owen. She is also survived by one sister, Ruth Gray Braden of Hamilton, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

She was the secretary for Arcadia Elementary School in Davidson County.  After Arcadia closed in 1975, she moved to Northwest Elementary School and retired from there. Peggy and Hal owned and operated Hal Essick Used Cars for more than 60 years.

Peggy was previously a member of Advent Moravian Church and after her marriage to Hal, she became a member of Friedberg Moravian Church.

The family is thankful for her caregivers: Stephanie, Arlene, Tina and Amanda for taking care of our mother.

A private family graveside service will be held at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. James C. Newsome Jr. and Rev. Dan K. Nelson Officiating.

Memorials may be made to Friedberg Moravian Church at 2178 Friedberg Church Road in Winston Salem, NC 27127 or Griffith Fire Department at 5190 Peters Creek Parkway in Winston Salem, NC 27127.
