Mr. Leo Edward Weatherman, 97, formerly of Pilot Mountain, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 22, 2021. He was born on July 11, 1924, in Sioux City, IA the son of the late Leslie O. Weatherman and Harriet Louisa Bennett Weatherman. Mr. Weatherman proudly served his country in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. He retired from Swift & Co. with 23 years of service and then followed the path the Lord led him to, as a missionary with the Southern Baptist Convention in Brazil for 11 years. Mr. Weatherman was a member of Brim’s Grove Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Hiler Weatherman. Mr. Weatherman is survived by a daughter, Diana Ernest of Winston-Salem; a son, David Weatherman (Patricia) of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Carl Weatherman, Samantha Beck, Rachel Saunders (Chris) and Ryan Ernest (Madison); and three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Christian and Amber. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery in Pilot Mountain with Rev. Dean Barley and Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Mr. weatherman will lie-in-state at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall form 11:00-4:00 on Friday, November 26, 2021, for anyone who would like to pay their respects. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Surry Co. EMS staff for their professionalism and expertise in Mr. Weatherman’s time of need.
