David Leonard

David Herman Leonard, 61, of Hickory, North Carolina, died on Thursday, December 1, 2022 after a period of declining health.

Born in Hickory on July 14, 1961, David was the son of Herman Frye Leonard and Elizabeth Cain Leonard.

After graduating from St. Stephens High School in 1979, David attended Appalachian State University.  He was a prolific reader, a frequent winner of trivia contests and a jovial and generous friend.  David especially enjoyed holidays with his extended family in Winston-Salem, where he was ready for any card game or board game.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his aunts, Dorothy Leonard Lougee, Marie Cain Suwalkski, and Carol Cain Adams.

David is survived by his sister, Vicki Henderson (Bill) of Pahrump, NV; his uncle, Virginius B. Lougee III of Bermuda Run, NC; and by his first cousins, Carol Danforth (John) of Winston-Salem, NC, Brent Lougee of Midlothian, VA, and Jay Adams, of Fort Collins, CO.  He is remembered fondly by many younger family members who laughed at his jokes and enjoyed his carefully chosen Christmas gifts.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Catawba Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Hickory, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in David’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
