Zona 'Jenny' Winfree Carter

KERNERSVILLE - Zona ""Jenny""Winfree Carter, 89, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013. A lifelong resident of Kernersville, she was born June 28, 1924 in Forsyth Co. the oldest child of the late Dewitt and Martha Bull Winfree. Jenny was the valedictorian of her senior class at Kernersville High School in 1941. She retired form Adams Millis Corporation after 40 years of service and then enjoyed long and numerous trips to Atlantic Beach where she spent time fishing and relaxing. When she wasn't at the beach, she enjoyed growing vast quantities of tomatoes during the summer months which she shared with family and friends. Jenny was a member of Kernersville Wesleyan Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Berchel ""Jack"" Winfree. Surviving are her husband, Willard Anderson Carter; son, Gary W. Winfree and wife, Angela; daughter, Sharon W. Caudle and husband, William; five grandchildren, Bruce Winfree, Jason Winfree, Brad Caudle, Kevin Caudle and Karen Walters; six great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma ""Tootie"" Pfaff, and numerous other relatives from a large extended family. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Kernersville Wesleyan Church with Rev. Phil Hulen officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
