Zelpha Lee Wishon Joyner died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born to the late Fonza J. Wishon and Mary Jane Byrd Wishon September 2, 1918 in Winston-Salem where she lived all her life. Mrs. Joyner attended Reynolds High School one year and was a member and graduate of the first class from South High School in January Class of 1936. She was a former member of Southside Baptist Church. After her marriage in 1937, she became a life-long member of Waughtown Baptist Church and had been active in the Women's Missionary Union. She taught Women's Bible Classes: Dorcas, Victory, and T.E.L.; and was a member of the Crosswinds Bible Study Group. She worked ten years at the North Carolina Baptist Home, retiring in 1967 and then did volunteer work at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Joyner was a charter member of the former Sun-Waugh Women's Club. She was a member of the Colonel Joseph Winston Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her hobby was genealogy and she wrote a book on the ancestors of the Wishon family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Joyner was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. Joyner; and brother Dalton D. Wishon. Surviving is her only child, Joyce Lynn Joyner Williams and her husband George ""Bernie"" Williams of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Benjamin C. Williams of Winston-Salem, and David Joyner Williams and wife Mary Downing Williams of Herndon, VA; one great grandson Rick Joyner Williams; one great granddaughter, Kelsey Downing Williams of Herndon, VA; sisters-in-law, Vicky Davis Wishon Capra of Clemmons and Erma Joyner Foster of Winston-Salem; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Waughtown Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Eddie Brackett and Rev. Joe McWethy officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
