Mrs. Zelma Levan Gwaltney, 88, of Traphill, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at Wilkes Senior Village in North Wilkesboro. She was born December 23, 1923 in Iredell County, the daughter of the late, Eddie Fulford and Ellie Leora Goforth Levan. Mrs. Gwaltney was a member of Old Roaring River Baptist Church in Traphill and was retired from Sara Lee Corporation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Gwaltney; her son, Melvin Dennie Gwaltney and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two grandsons, Shane Gwaltney and wife, Sonja and Chris Gwaltney and wife, Amanda of Winston-Salem; six great grandchildren; a special niece and caregiver, Shirley Watts of Traphill and a special friend, Sally Hellard of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel in Clemons. The family will receive friends following the service. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum.
