Hedrick Mrs. Wylma Bryson Hedrick, 92, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born January 20, 1918 in Buncombe County to George W. and Iva Starnes Bryson. She attended Woman's College in Greensboro. She was President of the NC Association for Education of Young Children in 1960 and in 1971 received the NCKA Award for One Child Turned On. She retired from the UNCG bookstore in 1987. Mrs. Hedrick taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian Church and First Christian Church. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Hedrick in 1968 and by a brother, Alfred Bryson. Surviving are her son, John Hedrick and his wife, Connie of Winston-Salem; a beloved dog, Chancie; three brothers, George W. Bryson, Jr., John Bryson and wife, Nell, all of Greensboro and Charles Bryson of Winston-Salem; a sister, Dee Montague and husband, Bob of Morehead City; and a lifelong friend, Cornelia Kelly. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Lee Strange officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
