W.R. "Bill" Dowe

Mr. W.R. ""Bill"" Dowe, 86, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Yadkin Nursing Care Center. He was born March 14, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York to Chester J. and Dorothy Chute Dowe. Mr. Dowe was a member of Old Town Baptist Church. He was an endowed member of Old Town Masonic Lodge 751 AF & AM and various business and community organizations throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Hines Dowe; and a brother, Bruce C. Dowe. Surviving are two daughters, Anne-Marie Hicks and husband Ronnie; Dorothy M. Davidson and husband Brian; son, Billy Dowe and trusted aide Carleen; granddaughter, Amanda Snyder and husband Chris; and brother, Donald L. Dowe; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. His working career included various managerial positions with the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company and he served as the director of the NC Small Business and Technology Development Center. After retirement, he tirelessly served as NC DAV State Commander as well as other positions in several veterans' organizations. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Old Town Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Speas officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
