Mr. Woodrow Jerry Flowers, Sr., 79, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 29, 1929 in Forsyth County to Bill and Ellen Flowers. Mr. Flowers was retired from Baptist Hospital. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1134 (formerly Post 6367) as a Quarter Master. Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Lou Rich Flowers; one son, Timothy Wayne Flowers; two brothers, Paul and Bill Flowers and a sister, Virgie Vestal. Surviving are three daughters, Sandy Robinson, Tammy Flowers and Anna Goodwin; one son, Jerry Flowers, Jr.; one adopted son, Mark Hooker (wife Carla); eight grandchildren, Shannon Johnston (Brandon), Roger Robinson (Ali), Kenneth Goodwin, Josh Goodwin, Misty Shropshire, Sarah Flowers, Thomas Robinson (Nikki) and Clarke Hooker; ten great grandchildren, Damian, Layne, Luke, Emily, Lexus, Jeremy and Dakota, Holly, Hanna and Halaina Shropshire; one brother, Danny Flowers (Corky) and one special son-in-law, Roger Robinson. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 Friday, August 22, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Roger Robinson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Waughtown Cemetery with military rites by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
