Pitts Col. Wilson Herbert Pitts, retired USAF, 86, of Pfafftown, NC, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at his home, surrounded by loving family and friends. Born in Winston-Salem, Wilson was the son of James H. and Lula A. Pitts. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served as a tail gunner on a B-24 bomber. On Wilson's 21st mission, his plane was shot down. He was MIA, captured, and a POW for the duration of the war. Wilson was a Purple Heart and Air Medal recipient. Wilson retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies after 43 years of service, and was founder of Pittco, Inc. He was a long time member of Christ Moravian Church, where he served actively until his health declined. He was devoted to and loved his family, his friends, and his country. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ragland Pitts, three brothers, and four sisters. He is survived by his two sons, Keith Pitts, and wife, Margaret, and Bobby Pitts, and wife Karen; seven grandchildren, Sarah Beck (Randy), Amy Pope (Rand), Wendy Mabe, Meredith, Kristen, Jason, and Megan Pitts; and two great grandchildren, Isabelle Pitts and ""Babygirl"" Beck. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, September 26, 2011 at Christ Moravian Church with the Rev. Roger Kimball officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to thank ""Wil's"" best friends, Ruben, Judy, and Joe Morales for blessing and enriching the final years of his life with an abundant amount of love, caring, and coffee. A special thank you to Robert Pettyjohn and Richard Best for their loving and compassionate care.
