Wilma "Joyce" Hillegaart

Ms. Wilma “Joyce” Hillegaart, 88, of Lewisville, NC, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020, at her home.  She was born on December 18, 1931 to Lewis and Thelma Brown in Texas.  Until retirement, she lived in southern California where she worked as an RN at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital.  Upon retirement, she moved to Lewisville, NC, to be close to her daughter and grandchildren.  She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.  Joyce was always telling stories about her Sunday School outings, nursery work, and the church’s holiday productions.  Outside of her church fellowship, she was an avid gardener and had several flower beds she tended throughout her yard.  She loved to sit outside and watch as the hummingbirds, squirrels, and other small animals would eat on the many feeders.  She also enjoyed family trips and water aerobics at the local YMCA.  In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings, Nadine Clark, Kenneth Brown, James “Jim” Brown, Mickey Brown, and a son, John Hillegaart.  She is survived by her son, Ron Hillegaart; daughter, Debra Raper (David); four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Gregg (Adrian).  Due to public health concerns and limitations on public gatherings, there are no planned services.  The family would like to thank all of Joyce’s in-home caregivers and Hospice for the exceptional care they provided.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.  Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Ms. Hillegaart.
