Wilma May McEwen Winsted

KERNERSVILLE-Wilma May McEwen Winsted, 91, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 29, 1920 in New London, Connecticut to the late Lewis Emerson and Helen Gay McEwen. Wilma was an active member of Kernersville Seventh-day Adventist Church where she played the organ and wrote over fifteen hymns during her lifetime. She also served as a Sabbath School teacher and was faithful to her weekly prayer group. Wilma and her husband, Philip owned and operated Kernersville Kare. The first facility opened in 1965, and they opened their second facility in 1974. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Philip Bailey Winsted; sister, Frances Coombs; and a brother, Emerson McEwen. Surviving are her daughter, Janine Winsted Knight and husband, Dennis of Winston Salem; a son, Bailey Emerson Winsted and wife, Peggy of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Scott Winsted, Gregory Winsted and wife, Dana, Jennifer Willey, Heather Port and husband, Chris, Brenden Willey and wife, Zoe; four great-grandchildren, Hailey and Hunter Port, Jackson and Sadie Winsted; and a sister, Grace Johnson of Groton CT; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, July 8, 2011 at Kernersville Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Don Davis, Mr. John Hodgkin, and Pastor Dwayne Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
