Mrs. Wilma Brown Hall, 95, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in McKinney, Texas.
She was the youngest of seven children born to the late Mary McCrary Brown and Colonel Simuel Brown.
Wilma was a member of Urban Street Baptist/Vernon Forest Baptist church for most of her life, and was very active in all aspects of the church. She especially enjoyed gospel music and devoted many years to singing in various church groups and playing the piano. She was a graduate of Gray High School, and attended Piedmont Bible College for two years. Wilma was married to Howard R. Hall who passed away in 1981.
Wilma owned and operated Southside Cafeteria for nearly 40 years, although most people knew it only as “Wilma’s”. Many of her customers ate with her five days a week (sometimes twice a day), and came for the family atmosphere as much as the food. She would never turn away anyone just because they didn’t have money to pay. Everyone got fed at “Wilma’s”.
Her five brothers, whom all preceded her in death, Jack, Burton, Odell, Aldine and Zeno, served our country in World War II, with one (Odell) having been a POW in Germany. Wilma was also preceded in death by her sister, Rosalee Brown Davis.
She was so proud of her two sons, Reggie (McKinney, Texas) and Rusty (Low Gap, NC); and loved her two grandsons, Tanner (Los Angeles, CA) and Travis (San Francisco, CA); and granddaughter, Anna Kate Modisett (Plano, Texas).
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mike Gates officiating.
