Mr. Willie Johnson, Jr., aka “Hunny” (as his wife would call him) a native of Irwin County (Ocilla, Georgia) passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center. Later in life, Willie moved to Winston-Salem, NC, and began working at Reynolds Tobacco Company. He found the love of his life, Viveca, 42 years ago, and cherished her until the very end. Willie was known to those who loved and knew him as “June.” He loved his family and took to heart the role of being the oldest. Willie had a deep love for God and enjoyed telling everyone how good God has been to him. Willie and his wife enjoyed spending their time together by cooking and traveling before their health declined. He had a great passion for his yard and garden, but the love he had for God and his wife were immeasurable.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Willie Johnson Sr. and Mrs. Ola Mae Bryant Johnson; one sister, Frances Wilcox; and six brothers, Johnny C. Johnson, Frank D. Johnson, James A. Johnson Sr., Elijah “Bill” Johnson, Leon Johnson, and Raymond Johnson.
Willie is survived by his loving wife, Viveca Johnson of the home; two brothers, Kenneth Johnson (Clara) of Tifton, GA, and Calvin Johnson (Gloria) of Ghana; one sister, Juanita Johnson of Douglas, GA; and three sisters-in-law, Margie, Betty, and Willie Mae.
He also leaves to cherish his memory many devoted family members, his special nieces, Amanda Anthony (Gary), and Marleshia Young (Daryle), Leta Banner; special nephews, James Johnson, Jr. (Chinita), Raymond Johnson, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
