Willie 'WG' Honeycutt

WINSTON-SALEM - Willie ‘WG' Honeycutt, 82, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was a long time resident of the Union Cross Community in Winston-Salem. Willie was born on September 14, 1928 in Mitchell County to the late Chester and Lillie Mae Street Honeycutt. He was a member of Union Cross Baptist Church and was a Veteran of US Navy and Army. Willie drove for McLean Trucking Company for 33 years, where he served as Shop Steward for Local Teamster's Union 391. He was a Mason and also served as the President of the Retired Teamster Members. He also had driven a school bus for 20 years for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and loved children.

In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by brothers, Dave and Buster Honeycutt; sisters, Etta and Nannie Honeycutt, Betty Gouge, Tilda Butler, Bonnie Street, Martha Jenkins, Lennis Moffitt, Mary Arrowood and Virgie Hughes.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Honeycutt of the home; three sons, Jeff Honeycutt, of the home, Willie A. ‘Randy' Honeycutt (wife, Cathy) of Winston-Salem, and Greg Honeycutt (wife, Eden) of Ocracoke, NC; a sister, Georgia H. Moffitt (husband, Toye) of Unicoi, TN; two step grandsons, Phillip Watson (wife, Jennifer) and Jimmy Sczudlo; two step great-grandchildren, Addison and Kaide Watson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 at Union Cross Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Ashworth officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Willie Honeycutt may be made to Union Cross Baptist Church - General Fund, 4350 High Point Road, Kernersville, NC 27284.
