Willie Elbert Gibbons

Mr. Willie Elbert Gibbons, 86, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Surry Co. on August 13, 1926, the son of the late William Hugh Gibbons and Trudy Leigh Tilley Gibbons. Mr. Gibbons was a charter member of Old Town Baptist Church and proudly served our country during WWII in the United States Navy. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 35 years of service and the Special Children's School with 15 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Erlene Owens Gibbons in September of 2010 after 63 years of marriage and three sisters, Nellie Miller, Sue Smith and Jean Gupton. He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Cook and husband Tim of Meadows of Dan, VA and Becky G. Lusk of Pfafftown, two grandchildren, Jonathan Lusk and Jeffrey Lusk, both of Pfafftown, a sister, Betty Weavil and husband Wayne of Kernersville, a brother, Don Gibbons and wife Betty Ann of Kernersville and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military rites will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem with Dr. Rick Speas officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Brenner Children's Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice.
