William R. Stafford

William R. “Bill” Stafford, 90, of Stokesdale, passed away on August 21, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital.  Bill was born on July 21, 1930 to Willie and Maranda Stafford.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home, his children, Rusty Stafford (Kathy) of Lexington, Susan Moore (Barry) of High Point and Wendy Stafford of Greensboro.  He was also father to Catherine and Elizabeth who are deceased.  His surviving siblings are Iris Farrington, Ruby Cole and Glen Stafford.  Bill came from a big family which included Jessie, Howard, Lucille, Nellie, Doris, Viola, and Ralph, all whom preceded him in death.  He had 4 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Bill was employed by Vicks for many years.  He loved to rabbit hunt and fish.  He enjoyed NASCAR,  Braves baseball and Duke basketball.  He was especially proud of the Brunswick Stews he would make each year until his health prevented it.  When he was young he played and coached softball.  The times he was thrown out of games for arguing with the umpire are too numerous to recall.

A memorial service will be held at Triad Church of Christ on Saturday, August 29 at 1:00 PM. Pastor David Miller will officiate.   In keeping with Bill’s last wish to “take care of Wendy”, memorial donations can be made to Wendy Stafford, 2620 Maxine Drive, High Point, NC 27265.
