William Monroe James

Mr. William Monroe James, 83, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at home. He was born July 25, 1939, in Davidson County to William Franklin and Ruth Mendenhall James. Monroe was a fun and loving husband, daddy, grandpa, and great grandpa. He served in the US Army, 1963-1965 during the Vietnam War. He retired from Roadway Express where he was employed as a diesel mechanic. He was a member of Pinedale Christian Church. Monroe enjoyed traveling the US and camping with his family and was always ready to deliver a joke or prank.

In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by his first wife, Ila “Lois” Shipley James; his two brothers, David James and Clarence James; and two sisters, Edna James Nelson and Jeanette James.

Surviving is his devoted wife, Jean W. James. They celebrated 41 years of marriage in January. In addition to his wife, Monroe is survived by his children, Cindi Stokes (Brent), Christi Rose (Lonnie), Debbie Pittman, Kaye Greenwood (Randy), and David Creed (Anne); 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Kenneth James (Brenda), Richard James (Janet), Bruce James (Phyllis), and Doyle James (Karyn) and his sister, Audrey Sink.

A visitation will be held at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel in Winston-Salem on Tuesday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a service of remembrance at 2:00 p.m.  Entombment will be at Westlawn Cemetery Mausoleum following the service.
