Mr. William Charles “Bill” Hemrick, 94, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Southfork Assisted Living. He was born July 24, 1926, in Forsyth County to the late Donnie Sanford Hemrick and Bessie Bodenheimer Hemrick. Mr. Hemrick received his education in the Winston-Salem School System. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for approximately 74 years where he was active in the Men’s Club, Sunday School, and Church Choir. Bill was, as long as his health allowed, involved in many church projects, and particularly enjoyed working at church BBQ’s. He loved singing and in fact, was pretty good at it. For many years he was a member of a Barber Shop Quartet Organization and traveled around with them performing at various events. Mr. Hemrick was a proud member of the US Army and served in the 1st Cavalry Division during WWII from November 1944 to August 1946. After leaving the army he went back to work for Duplan Corporation, which he had started with in December of 1943, and continued until 1974. After Duplan’s closing, he went to work at Salem Carpet until his retirement in December of 1991. Bill was married to his loving wife, Elizabeth Dunn, for 67 years until her passing on July 14, 2013. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by nine of his eleven siblings and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hemrick is survived by two sisters, Bette H. Kiser of Winston-Salem, NC and Nancy H. Stiles of Nashville, TN; a special friend, Laura McNair; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 10th at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Angie Toth officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, Bethel Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
