Mr. William Henry Ziglar, Jr. (Bill), died July 25, 2010 at the age of 96. Born on March 30, 1914 in Old Salem to William Henry and Sarah Ellen Wolfe Ziglar, he is the last of the family siblings. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Etta Boles, Cleo Poindexter Miller, Pauline Swink, Ruth Easter, Lillie Crater, Treva Comer; and four brothers, Reuben, Jack, Glenn and Ralph Ziglar. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Virginia Joyce Ziglar; and his wife of 31 years, Rebecca McConnell Ziglar. He is survived by his son, Rev. Richard V. Ziglar and wife, Peggy of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Julia Z. Sullivan and her husband, Paul, of Tulsa, OK and R. Vance Ziglar of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; his great grandchildren, Chad and Savannah Sullivan of Tulsa, OK; his step-daughter, Tonya Hart and her husband, Michael and their children, Becca Hart and Katie Suttles; step-sons, William and Michael Brantley; many nieces, nephews, and family from his second marriage. Bill was baptized at Home Moravian Church and cherished his Moravian heritage. In 1933 he became a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was one of the leaders in building the present Sanctuary on Country Club Rd. During his residency in Charlotte, he was a founding member of the South Park Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Since his return to Winston-Salem in 1988, he has held church membership at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church and Pinedale Christian Church. His career centered around sales. In his late teens he had his own meat stall at the old City Market in downtown Winston-Salem. Later he was employed by Famous Foods of Virginia (FFV), and Colgate Palmolive Soap Co. Bill was a self motivated learner, and being the hard working energetic leader that he was, he went on to establish the Ziglar Advertising Specialties in 1971 in Charlotte and was the president until his retirement at age 72 in 1986. In 1971 he served as president of the Executive Assoc. of Greater Charlotte. He belonged to the Lions Club International. He worked hard to improve his leadership skills and in 1977 became a certified advertising specialist, receiving a certificate from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Wisconsin. In 1979 the Specialty Advertising Assoc. International recognized him for significant contributions to the sales growth of Specialty Advertising. In 1984, Specialty Advertising Assoc. International Committee of 100 presented him an award that read ""to William Henry Ziglar in grateful thanks for your invaluable support and sage counsel"". The Mayor of Charlotte proclaimed March 30, 1984, as W.H. ""Bill Ziglar Day, recognizing him for his ""personal and business manner"". He began his Masonry in 1958 at the Charles M. Seltzer Lodge. He became a member of the Charlotte Scottish Rite Bodies, Chanters, and OASIS in 1960, remaining active for 44 years. In 1983 he was presented the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of NC Service Award. His hobbies included woodworking, enjoying his beach home, traveling around the world, and volunteering at Bolton Elementary School. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Bob McCaskill and the Rev. Richard V. Ziglar officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday with a Masonic Service being held at 8:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
