DATELINE: Mt. Airy, NC A very loving husband, father, and grandfather Mr. William ""Bill"" Harding Yates, age 87 of Mt. Airy died Saturday morning, January 24, 2009 at his home. Bill was born in Forsyth County, February 27, 1921 to the late William Arthur and late Berchie Free Chitty Yates. He was a retired plumber with over 50 years service and a veteran of the US Army having served during the American Theater Campaign. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Opal Swain Yates, Two sisters and also two brothers. Bill will greatly be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Surviving are his two daughters; Sandra Swift of Winston-Salem and Pam (Randy) Edwards of Pilot Mountain. Two sons; William ""Bos"" H. Yates, Jr. of the home and Danny (Jean) Yates of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC. Three grandchildren; Kimberly Yates, Kelly (Zach) O'Neal, and Dale Edwards. One sister; Myrtle Jean Truesdale of Kernersville. One sister-in-law; Marshall Tyler of Liberty, NC. Several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning, January 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Marshall Baptist Church in Winston-Salem by Rev. Zane Fishel. Military burial honors will be conducted by the King American Legion Post 290. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall Monday evening January 26, 2009 from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to extend a very special Thank You to all who helped with Bill during his extended sickness.
