William Allen Wood

Mr. William Allen Wood, 89, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Clemmons Village. Mr. Wood was born in Forsyth County on November 27, 1921 to James Monroe and Eva Allred Wood. He was a member of South Fork Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Wood retired from AT& T with 36 years of service. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Atlantic Theater, with the US Navy. Later retiring with 30 years of service with the US Naval Reserve. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a daughter Carol Wood Brown, an infant son, James D. Wood and an infant daughter Ginger K. Wood. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Evelyn Steelman Wood; two sons, Wayne Wood of Cary, NC and Danny J. Wood and wife Angelia of Advance; five grandchildren, Jeff and Christina Wood, both of Cary, NC, Daniel Wood of Advance, and Ryan and Abby Brown, both of Indian Trail, NC; a son-in-law, Dennis Brown of Indian Trail, NC ; one brother, Troy Wood and wife Vonnie of Yadkinville; and a sister Joan Brown and husband Chancel of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Rick Sewell and Dr, Jerry Laughter officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
