William Benjamin 'Ben' Wood

WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. William Benjamin 'Ben' Wood, 21, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at UNC-Asheville. Ben was born on September 19, 1991 in Guilford County to William Edward and Julia Hilliard Wood. He was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church and was a Junior at UNC-Asheville. Ben had a kind and loving soul, with a great sense of humor. He was particularly compassionate to the needs and struggles of others more than himself and was a great journalist. To his younger sisters, Ben was a great big brother who shared lots of walks in the creeks and scavenger hunts with their stuffed animals. Ben was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mary Wood and his maternal grandfather, Rev. Ray Hilliard. Surviving are his parents, Bill and Julie; two sisters, Sophie and Lacy Wood; grandparents, Billie Hilliard and Charles Wood; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special friend, Tiffany Sheets. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Cash, Rev. Ellis Rouse and Rev. Doug Watts officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
