William 'Bill' Luther Swain, Jr.

WALKERTOWN - Mr. William 'Bill' Luther Swain, Jr., 88, died Monday, January 14, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Bill was born on September 20, 1924 in Forsyth County to the late William Luther, Sr. and Martha Jane Reich Swain. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army serving in the European Theater. Bill was a long time member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School, was a member of the United Methodist Men, was a member of the Robert West Sunday School Class and sang with the Men's Chorus. Bill shared his compassion of others by volunteering for Meals on Wheels for a number of years. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Elizabeth Stewart Swain; and four sisters, Louise Wall, Thelma Waggoner, Kathryn Rector, and Lois Marion. Surviving are two sons, Stewart Swain (wife, Pamela) of Kernersville and Tom Swain (wife, Lisa) of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Stewart, Jr., Chase, Brad and Baker Swain; and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 pm Friday, January 18, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
