Mr. William ""Bill"" Flagge Stanfield, Sr, 85, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Trinity Elms. Mr. Stanfield was born on October 15, 1929 in Guilford County, North Carolina to the late Walter Raleigh and Annie Archer Stanfield. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church where he was a youth counselor, was very active on various committees, and also helped with many rebuilding missions. He was an accomplished athlete at Hanes High School, where he earned a scholarship to Catawba College in basketball, where he played basketball and football and he excelled more in football. He was named Little College All American in his senior year. He was an intricate part of South Little League and Tiny Greyhounds where he excelled as a mentor and coach. Upon retiring from AT&T, he taught classes at Forsyth Technical Community College and Winston Salem State where one student quoted ""He was the best teacher I ever had"". He was most importantly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, his love was unconditional and passionate. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Anne Beckerdite Stanfield, and a brother; John Thomas Stanfield. He is survived by his son, William Flagge Stanfield, Jr. and wife Michele and her son, Austin Smith, a daughter; Andrea Archer Stanfield Nifong and husband Derick, of Winston-Salem, one granddaughter Kylie Elizabeth Nifong, and many extended family members. A funeral service will be conducted at Midway United Methodist Church on Thursday at 2:00 PM with Pastor John Wood and Pastor Mike Gates officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday. The family would like to thank Trinity Elms as well as Miller Street Dialysis Center, both of which loved Bill dearly as well as the family and friends.
