William Joseph Joe" Stafford

Greensboro-William Joseph ""Joe"" Stafford, 85, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010. He was born October 30, 1924 in Forsyth Co. to the late Guy and Myrtle Phipps Stafford. Joe was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville. He was a United States Navy veteran having served in WWII, and retired from J.P. Stevens as manager after 40 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Johnston Stafford; three sisters; and one brother. Surviving are two daughters, Susan Clewis and husband Greg, Sherri Crittenden and husband Al all of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Amy and Wil Clewis, Michael and Katie Crittenden; one sister, Peggy Holder. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, May 17, 2010 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Paul Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
