William Henry Smith

Winston-Salem Mr. William Henry Smith, 84, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at his home. He was born in Forsyth County on December 19, 1929 to the late Alfred Douglas and Maude Billings Smith. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during WWII and later owned Smith Carpet Service. He attended Elon Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman and gardener. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Kathy Diane Smith and a granddaughter, Christy Harris. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Rachel Smith; children, Barbara Harris (Fletcher) of Tobaccoville, William Gray Smith (Cathy) of Lexington, Brenda Tetiva (Steve) of Mocksville, Carol Dillon (Jerry) of Winston-Salem, and Mark Smith of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Sylvia Lindley and 3 brothers, Johnny Smith, Edgar Smith, and Larry Smith; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 31, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the American Cancer Society, ATTN: Relay for Life Davidson County, NC (Team: Dream Team) 4 A Oak Branch Drive Greensboro, NC 27407.
