Mr. William C. Slate, Jr. (""Bill""), 59, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his home. He was born October 3, 1950 in Forsyth County to William Clarence Slate and Jessie Slate. Mr. Slate was a graduate of Parkland High School. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co./Archer with 29 years of service. Prior to his declining health, he was an active member of Woodland Baptist Church where he participated in the music program and played the bass guitar. He also was an avid fan of gospel music, riding his horses and fishing. He loved fishing on the North Carolina coast, especially on the Oceanna Pier of Atlantic Beach with his buddies, son Joshua, and friend Zane Torrence of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving is his loving wife, Amelia B. Slate; son, Joshua A. Slate of the home; his mother of Kernersville; sisters, Linda Baker (Jerry) of Antigua, West Indies and Shondra Mauck (Tom) of Pinnacle. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 7 at the funeral home.
