William Edward Ross

Mr. William Edward Ross, 78, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center after being in declining health for several years. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 2, 1939 to the late Arthur and Martha Moore Ross. Mr. Ross was a veteran of the U.S Army Reserves and a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1970. He retired from Rock Island Railroad, Lowes Hardware Inc., and worked until his death as a Walmart greeter known as ""Mr. Ed"". Mr. Ross loved fishing, bird watching, working jigsaw puzzles, and singing in the church choir. He had a great sense of humor and loved everyone as if they were family and was always willing to offer a handshake, a hug, and a smile. Mr. Ross was a wonderful Christian husband, father, and grandfather. Preceding him in death were four sisters. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Ellen Ross; four children, Yolande Miller (Doug), Kevin Ross, Scott Ross (Terry), and Bren Buono (Bryan); 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a special foster daughter, Julie Austin (Bill); also surviving are two sisters, Shirley Kosciak and Rose Petit a brother, Jim Ross, and many special loved ones. A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston Salem with Dr. Don Mann officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The American Heart Association or other established charitable organization.
