Mr. William Edgar Pope, 83, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Pineridge Health and Rehab Center in Thomasville. Mr. Pope was born on October 24, 1927 in Forsyth County to the late Bennie Pope. William served his country in the United States Army and fought in World War II. He retired from Western Electric where he was an engineer. Preceding Mr. Pope in death along with his mother are a brother, John Pope and a son, James Steven Pope. Surviving Mr. Pope are a son, William Edgar Pope, Jr. (Joan) of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Sherry McIntosh (Larry) of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mary Hansley (Marvin) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Will, Stacey, Tobie, Kelly, Eric and Sarah; and 7 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
