William Ray Pope

KERNERSVILLE - Mr. William Ray Pope, 69, died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. William was born November 4, 1943 in Guilford County to the late Avery and Gertie Merritt Pope. He retired after 35 years of service from Goodyear Tire Sales and was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. William loved playing golf. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Jean Cates Pope; three sisters, Geneva Warren, Margie Catlett and Bernell Jessup; five brothers, AB Pope, Jr., Jesse, Herbert, Amos and Wallace Pope. Surviving are two sons, David Pope (wife, Ruby) of Walkertown and Jeff Pope of Kernersville; two grandchildren, Adam Pope (wife, Amy) and Ashley Plourd (husband, Stephen); two great grandchildren, Cheyenna and Austin Plourd; two brothers, Lee and Tommy Pope; two sisters, Pauline Middleton and Nancy Potts; and two stepchildren, Gregory Ray Parker and Darlene Parker Smith. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Tommy Pope and Rev. Randy Jessup officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 15, at the funeral home.
