William "Bill" Lilburn Newnum, Jr.

KERNERSVILLE -- William ""Bill"" Lilburn Newnum, Jr., 69, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at Silas Creek Manor. Bill was born in Monterey, CA, on September 7, 1944 to the late William Lilburn Newnum, Sr. and Dolores Thomasson Newnum. Bill had a great sense of humor, loved the outdoors and had a special love for his eight grandchildren. His interest in airplanes led him to a career with Frontier and Continental Airlines for over 30 years, serving in many capacities, ultimately as City Manager.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his younger brother, Ronnie Newnum.

Surviving are two sons, Rick Newnum (wife, Gina) of Kernersville and Jeff Newnum (wife, Lindsay) of AZ; one daughter, Angie Van Buskirk (husband, Chad) of VA; eight grandchildren, Makenna, Spencer, Lydia, Mercy, Luke and Annie Newnum, Ashley and Cade Van Buskirk; one sister, Shirley Johnson of OK; and one brother, Bob Newnum of AZ.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Bruce Crews officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, at the funeral home.
