William Luke McDowell

Mr. William Luke McDowell, 20, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016. Luke was born in Columbus County, NC on February 7, 1996. Luke was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where he made a profession of faith and was baptized in 2006. He was the recipient of the Five Star Award at Spring Hill Middle School in 2010 in Wagram, NC for lettering in five sports. Luke played on the national champion USSSA Richmond Jammers basketball team in 2011. He was a 2014 graduate of North Davidson High School where he lettered in football and basketball. Following graduation, he completed two years of college. Luke was an avid UNC Tar Heel fan and served on the staff at the Eric Montross Father/Son Basketball Camp in Chapel Hill. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William ""Rebel"" Haynes and paternal grandparents, Charles Franklin McDowell, Jr. and Edna Walker Michaux. Luke is survived by his parents, Rev. C.F. McDowell III and Rev. Martha Haynes McDowell; two brothers, Charles ""Ches"" F. McDowell IV and wife, Elise and Addison McDowell and fiancé, Rachel; maternal grandmother, Vera L. Combs and husband, Marvin; and a very close and loving extended family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Ardmore Baptist Church with Dr. Don Gordon officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm on Tuesday at Ardmore Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NC Baptist Aging Ministry, P.O.
