KERNERSVILLE-William Hoover Mabe, 79, died Friday, October 31, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born August 23, 1929 in Stokes Co. to the late James Columbus and Etta Elizabeth Lawson Mabe. Hoover worked over 40 years in construction, and loved to operate heavy equipment. He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed gardening, deep sea fishing, riding motorcycles, and driving his old Willis Jeep. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Handy and Aunice; three sisters, Nellie, Murphy, and Lucy. Surviving are his wife, Darlene Linville Mabe of the home; two daughters, Sylvia M. Jeffreys and husband Roy of Kernersville, and April Mabe of Winston Salem; two sons, William L. Mabe of Zebulon, and James A. Mabe of Kernersville; thirteen grandchildren; twenty nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dewey Mabe and wife Lucy of Lawsonville, and Dennis Mabe and wife Peggy of Walnut Cove; two sisters, May Mabe of Lawsonville, and Dicie Smith of Asheboro. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville with the Rev. Jack Edmundson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Carecenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
