William J. "Bill" Leinbach

Mr. William J. ""Bill"" Leinbach, 86, of Winston-Salem, died peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. Bill was born on May 16, 1929 to Margaret Brickenstein and Clarence Theodore Leinbach. He attended public schools in Winston-Salem and graduated from Reynolds High School in 1946. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in Physics. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953, entering as a Buck Private and leaving as a 2nd Lieutenant. He attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor from 1954-1956 earning his Masters in Mathematics. Bill was raised in Old Salem and was a member of Home Moravian Church. His involvement was as a band member for over 74 years. He also taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for two years from 1972 until 1974. Bill married Jean Huth in 1953. They had three children, Jim (Joanna) Annelisa, Logan; Linda (Kirk Frambes) Riley, Madison, Mackenzie; and David Leinbach. In 1964, Bill married Rita Castleberry. They had three children, Salem (Keith Vest) Kennedy, Dow, Eli; Robert (Ric) (Leslie Leinbach), Eliza, Piper, Mary and; Caroline (Michael Woo) Samuel, Ian, Zach, Isaac, Salem. A total of 6 children and 16 grandchildren! He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Kolb. Bill's community service included President of Wachovia Little Symphony and a member of Twin City Kiwanis. One of his greatest pleasures was attending the High Point YMCA Men's Bible Study for the past 5 years with his son Ric. He developed a greater love for Jesus and a deeper understanding that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. He was President of the Y.M.C.A. from 1972-1974 during the construction of the Y on Glade Street and President and longtime member of the Y- Men's Club. Bill also played his French Horn in the Salem Band for over 65 years. Bill was a stock broker from 1960-1990, working for Interstate Securities, Dean Witter Reynolds and Merrill Lynch, retiring in 1990. Following retirement, Bill started teaching Mathematics at Salem College and Forsyth Technical Community College. He retired in 2009 from Forsyth Tech. Having loved teaching so much, he often mentioned that if he could live his life over, he would get his PhD in Math and teach at the University. Bill's hobbies were golf, bridge, gardening, skiing and music. He was very proud of his family and loved them dearly. Being a loving husband and father, Bill will be missed by all. Bill was preceded in death by his two older brothers, Ted (Kaka) and Lawrence (Kafoo). A Memorial Service will be held at Friday at 2:00 PM at Home Moravian Church.
