William “Bill" Cager Justice, Jr., 78, passed away on Friday April 5, 2024, at Trinity Elms Health and Rehab after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Bill was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on July 10, 1945, to the late William Cager Justice, Sr. and Gladys McCants Justice.
Bill attended Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1963. He was a proud graduate of Auburn University, class of 1967, with a degree in accounting. After earning his CPA, Bill began working alongside his father at Justice, Thore and Company in Winston Salem, NC. He continued working as an accountant until his retirement in 2011, spending many tax seasons with his friend and partner, Jimmie Thore.
Bill proudly served his country for 6 years in the Army Reserves.
He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served on many committees and made lifelong friends.
He was a true southern gentleman, opening doors, pulling out chairs and always answering with a prompt yes ma’am or yes sir. He loved sports, especially watching Auburn football and Wake Forest basketball games. He loved the beach and made many happy memories jumping waves, building sandcastles and having water gun fights with all of the children in the family. He never met a stranger and was always ready with a joke. He won the hearts of many including his caregivers at Trinity Elms in the last year.
He is survived by Patsy Johnson Justice, his wife of 34 years; his sister, Ann Justice Middleton (Jim); two daughters, Audra Ottaway (Robin) and Caroline Justice-Zelenka (Bill); and grandchildren, Avery and Reece Ottaway. He is also survived by stepchildren, Tiffany Wheeler (Gary), Heather Schwartz (Adam) and Todd Hilton (Keila); and step grandchildren, Charlie, Anna Kate and Jack Wheeler, Mikey, Ali and Coleman Schwartz, and Goldie Hilton.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Trinity Elms for the loving care and support received not only by Bill, but his entire family.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 13, 2024, at 1pm at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends from 11am-12:45pm at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
