William "Marvin" James

Mr. William ""Marvin"" James, age 83 of Rural Hall passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. James was born in Stokes County, July 31, 1931 to Charlie Masten and Maeola Tuttle James. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in King and attended Poplar Springs Church of Christ in King. Mr. James was a very talented musician; he loved playing the fiddle, electric bass guitar, and many other instruments. He was the founder of the original Stardusters Band and wrote two songs for Bill Monroe which he recorded. His love for his wife, daughter and music went hand in hand. They enjoyed traveling to the Grand Ole Opry and different places during their lives. Marvin and Flo loved attending all their grandchildren's sporting events and programs. In addition to his parents, Mr. James was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ida Florence East James, one daughter, Vetral Yvonne James, one sister, Mildred Hooker and three brothers; Wesley (Boot) James, Clyde (Babe) James and C. Wilbert James.

Mr. James is survived by his daughter, Darlene and husband Steve Palmer of Rural Hall. Four grandchildren: Amanda Palmer Thompson, Angela Palmer, Amilee Palmer and Stephanie Palmer. One brother, Johnny James of Clemmons and one sister, Judy James Vernon of Pfafftown. Several nieces and nephews. A special friend, Hassel Caudle.

Funeral services for Mr. James will be conducted Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Poplar Springs Church of Christ in King by Don Wallace, Minister. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall Friday evening October 10th from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
