William A. Hunter, Jr.

Mr. William Alfred Hunter, Jr., 92, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1919 in Forsyth County to the late William Alfred Hunter, Sr. and Mary Eugene Griffith Hunter. Mr. Hunter was a lifelong member of Clemmons United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force from 1941-1945 serving during WWII in which he was one of the first to be drafted for the war. After serving his country, he and his brother, John, opened a business together, Hunter Bros. Oil Co. that lasted until William retired. Mr. Hunter was the first Fire Chief of the Clemmons Volunteer Fire Department from 1951-1953. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Treva Nifong Hunter and his previous wife, Ramona Austin Hunter; brother, James Estes ""Et"" Hunter and a sister, Nell H. Pickens. Surviving is a son, William A. Hunter, III and wife Karen of Advance; four step-sons, Michael Austin Wilson of Denver, NC, Steven Craig Wilson and wife Pam of Raleigh, Patrick Burton Wilson and wife Marina of Cummings, GA, and Adam Spach Wilson and wife Cat of Vancouver, WA; two grandchildren, Emily and Holly; six step-grandchildren, Steven, Lauren, Megan, Max, Stacey, and Emma; also surviving is a brother, John F. Hunter and wife Lois of Clemmons, sister-in-law, Arlene Hunter, and a special friend, Patricia Dye. A service will held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Clemmons United Methodist Church with Dr. J. Matthew Burton, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemmons United Methodist Church, 3700 Clemmons Rd. Clemmons, NC 27012. On line condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
