Winston-Salem Mr. William Henry Hicks, 88, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010. He was born April 29, 1922 in Forsyth County to the late Elbert Burse and Lissie Jeffery Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and was the owner of Hicks & Burcham Inc. He served in the 513 Engineers in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Hicks was a retired Captain with the Mineral Springs Volunteer Fire Department and was a past President of the North Forsyth Civic Club. Preceding him in death were four sisters, Laura Cox, Pearl Needham, Francis Isgett, and Mabel Isgett and a brother, A.L. Hicks. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Stella Hicks; a son, Leland Hicks and wife Tracy of Trinity; three grandchildren, Christian, Savannah, and Mallory; also surviving is a sister, Ramonia Doub and husband Jack of Advance. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Bill Currie officiating. Burial will follow at Pfafftown Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr. Charlotte, NC 28215.
