William Porter Harrison

Mr. William ""Red"" Porter Harrison, 81, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at his home in Mocksville, NC. He was born in Walkertown, NC to the late Percy and Zola Harrison. Mr. Harrison was a well respected businessman in the community, having founded two local companies in the beauty supply and equipment industry, as well as the owner and operator of commercial properties. He was also a member of Cornerstone Christian Church of Mocksville. Red was an avid gardener and received much pleasure in sharing his bounty with friends and family. Although Red was a successful businessman, his greatest joy in life was his grandchildren and sharing in their accomplishments. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth White to whom he was married for over 40 years, and his brothers, Roy and Lindsey Harrison. Surviving him is his son, Jeff Harrison and wife Gina; grandchildren, Trent and Britt Harrison and step-grandchildren, Tanner and Dillon Manship. Surviving siblings include Wilburn Perry Harrison and wife Sue and Willard Harrison and wife Carolyn. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Steve Hardy officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Moravian Church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.
