Mr. William George Fanning, 79, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023. He was born on April 10, 1944, in Geneva, PA to the late Richard Charles and Virginia Frantz Fanning. Mr. Fanning graduated in 1962 from Ramapo Regional High School in Franklin Lakes, NJ and in 1964 graduated from Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, PA with an associate degree in Tool and Die Engineering. In 1968 he graduated from Talon Inc. in Meadville, PA as the 200th student in their Tool and Die Apprenticeship program. He continued to work for Talon making tiny pieces used to make zippers. Mr. Fanning later worked at Saegertown Manufacturing for a short time before starting a Building and Remodeling business in 1971. In 1975 he started Mears Tool and Die with David Mears and retired from there in 2009. Some of his greatest joys and hobbies was his Savior the Lord Jesus Christ, golf, family and friends, golf, creative machine design and building, golf, helping others, including a mission trip to Honduras, golf, traveling in the motor home, golf, wood working, golf, and amateur radio with the call sign of N3VVZ. Did we mention that he loved GOLF? He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Meadville, PA, CARS (Crawford Amateur Radio Association) Meadville, PA, and Friends Baptist Church of Clemmons, NC. Surviving is his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Lee Roha Fanning whom he married on April 9, 1966; three sons, Jeff Fanning (Staci), Douglas Fanning (Barbara), and Dennis Fanning; five grandchildren, Ashli Jung (Ross), A.J. Fanning (Sara), Ryan Fanning (Caitlin), Jeremy Fanning, and Alyssa Fanning; five great-grandchildren, Miah, Maci, Kenzi, River, and Kinsley; brother, Ross Fanning (Nancy); two nephews, Kevin Fanning and Greg Fanning; also surviving is his great-friend, Mike Burnside. A funeral service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, August 11, 2023, at Friends Baptist Church with Rev. Daron Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel and from 10:15-11:15 prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends Baptist Church Building Fund, 1840 Lewisville Clemmons Rd. Clemmons, NC 27012. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
