William “Ed” Edward Alexander, 90, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on August 27, 1934, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Hazel Jennings Alexander and James Edward Alexander
He attended Presbyterian College on a football scholarship. After completing college, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon returning, he began a 35-year career with Unisys Corporation as a computer engineer and team manager. Following his retirement from Unisys Corporation, Ed enjoyed owning and operating a full-service Texaco station. He was a dedicated member of Clemmons United Methodist Church, and an active member of the Elks Lodge and a proud Mason for many years.
Ed lived life to the fullest, with a deep love for his family and a variety of passions that brought him joy. He loved fishing, golf, and traveling, but most of all, he cherished time spent with his loved ones. Whether dancing to beach music or sharing laughter, he found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. His warm heart and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mary “Betty Jo” Alexander. He is survived by his son, Mark Alexander and his wife Andrea; his daughter, Sherrie Billings and her husband Tim; and his granddaughter, Joanna Kerzner and her husband Jeremy. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Ann Flowe; and his loving fiancée of 16 years, Delores Stewart. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to their dear family friend, Kathy Briggs, for her love and support.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Clemmons United Methodist Church, with Rev. John Fitzgerald officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
