William Craft, Jr.

Mr. William Delbert "Del" Craft, Jr., 76, of Clemmons, passed away Friday evening, December 29, 2017, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Del was born on June 4, 1941, to the late William Delbert Craft, Sr. and Joy Kiser Craft. He grew up in Rural Hall, graduating from Northwest High School in 1959. He attended Wake Forest University, which sparked a lifelong love for the Demon Deacons. Del worked in the family lumber business until 1968. He was then hired at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, and he worked there for 28 years before retiring as the manager of customer service. Del's #1 passion was golf and he loved playing the game any chance he could. He also enjoyed fishing at the beach, serving and singing in his church and spending time with his family. He cared deeply for his friends and family and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Del was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Sherry Smith Craft. He is survived by his sister, Rita Knight (Mike) of Clemmons; daughters, Laurel Walter (Scott) of Raleigh and Andrea Hicks of Winston-Salem; son, Tripp Craft (Lauren) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Elizabeth Taylor (Ben), Madeline Walter and Matthew Hicks; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 with Pastor Doug Klein officiating. A private interment will follow the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Park Rd. #250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
