Stokesdale - William J. Caruthers, 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Heartland Living and Rehab. He was born on June 6, 1928, in Guilford County to Edgar and Mary Rhoda Malloy Caruthers. Depending on your relationship with Mr. Caruthers, you may have known him as “Sam”, “Samp”, or “Bill”! For work, he was previously employed at GI 1200 Retail Store, Cone Mills, and Union Camp (currently, Highland Containers). Bill has raised a few crops of tobacco in his life, but he loved growing BIG tomatoes and cucumbers. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of Northwest Baptist Church in Greensboro. Only with the help of the Good Lord above, he was so strong for so long at the end of his life. Mr. Caruthers will be so missed.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances Caruthers; his granddaughter, Melissa Potts; two brothers, Porter Caruthers and Norman Goins; and two sisters, Peck Coble and Margaret Woody.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Cathy Potts (husband, Phillip), Rick Caruthers (wife, Joanne), Ralph “Butch” Caruthers, and Terry “TC” Caruthers; two grandchildren, Bryan Caruthers (wife, Dawn) and Tiffany Caruthers; three great grandchildren, Sophia, Evelyn, and Jameson; and his sister, Phyllis Collins (husband, Larry).
The family would like to express their gratitude to Countryside Manor, Heartland Living and Rehab, and Authorcare Hospice for their care of Mr. Caruthers; James Kellum and Cindy for cleaning his house; and to Tim Venable at Char T’s Hair Designs for cutting his hair so many times.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
