The Rev. Dr. William Vance Campbell, Sr, age 83 died at home on June 27, 2022. Born June 4, 1939, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Ray Vance and Ruth Grose Campbell. William is an alumnus of Moravian College, Campbell University, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received his DMin and PhD from Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta, Ga.
William served numerous Southern Baptist churches as Minister of Music and Youth. Additionally, he served as three Moravian churches as pastor. William retired in 2005 and in retirement served Olivet Moravian as pastoral assistant and Memorial Reformed Church as pastor until 2020.
During his 60 years of ministry, William served as Chaplain of Police, the Highway Patrol, and various Fire Departments wherever he lived. He was awarded the Jefferson Award for Public Service in 1995. He was an underwriter and financial planner for Ministers Life Insurance Co.
William enjoyed his civic involvement. He was past president of the Winston-Salem Optimist club, and member of Salem Masonic Lodge no.289, and the Oasis Shrine Temple for more than 50 years. William was a longtime member of the NC Baptist Singers & amp; Orchestra. He also enjoyed playing in various Moravian bands and in 2019 was recognized for playing in 70 Easter Sunrise Bands.
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Cooper Campbell; his two sisters, Carolyn Campbell Johnson and Martha Campbell Hord; and his daughter-in-law Amy Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Ann Overman Campbell and stepdaughter, Cynthia Autumn Williams of the home. He is also survived by his children, Carolynn Elizabeth Wood (Tommy), Melody Ruth Lee (Keith), and William Vance Campbell, Jr. (Amy); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-Law: William Johnson, Dub Hord, and Thomas Cooper; sister-in-Law, Kathy Guidry; and by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at Mizpah Moravian Church, 3165 Mizpah Church Rd, Rural Hall, NC 27045 on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 10:00 am with internment to follow at Hope Moravian Church God’s Acre, 2759 Hope Church Rd, Winston Salem, NC 27127. The family will receive friends at Mizpah Moravian on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 6:30-8:30pm, and immediately following the internment at Hope Moravian on July 6, 2022.
