William Albert Dub" Byerly

Mr. William Albert ""Dub"" Byerly, 84, passed away on Friday January 30, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Davidson County on November 24, 1924 to William Preston Byerly and Pearl Elizabeth Zimmerman Byerly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Lillian Inez ""Tillie"" Dorsett Byerly, brother Clarence J. Byerly and sisters Mary Freedle and Ethel Freedle. Surviving are his children Gerald and Barbara Byerly of Sandy Ridge, Mickey and Judy Byerly of Oak Island, Gwen and Allen Snyder and Keith and Glenda Byerly of Winston-Salem, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His sisters of Lexington are Grace Hege, Marie Hanes, Pauline (Odell) Everhart, and Ruby Freedle. He retired with 30 years of service from the city of Winston-Salem, Street Division. As long as his health permitted, he enjoyed gardening, and sharing his vegetables with friends and neighbors. His love of cooking always brought family and friends together and that passion was passed on to his children. He also had fond memories of his years as a heavy equipment operator. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem and other times at the home of Allen and Gwen Snyder. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, February 2, 2009 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Floyd Boles and Rev. David Pattisall officiating. The family would like to express their greatest appreciation to the care given by Dr. Charles Stinson and the nursing staff of the ninth floor Palliative Care Department at Forsyth Medical Center.
