William Hawkins Bogart, Jr.

Oak Ridge- William H. Bogart, Jr., 84, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale, NC. He was born March 25, 1927 in Greensboro to the late William H. Bogart, Sr. and Eunice Bowen Bogart. Mr. Bogart was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Oak Ridge. Before moving to Oak Ridge, he was an active member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church in Danville, VA, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Trustee. He was a graduate of Davidson College and NC State University, and served in the US Navy during WWII and in the Naval Reserves. He moved to Danville, VA where he was a professor of Chemistry at Danville Community College until his retirement, and also was employed at Dibrell Brothers. William was an active member in the Jaycees and was named outstanding Jaycee; he also was a member of the Kiwanis Club, an officer of the Danville Philatelic Club, and a lifetime member of the American Philatelic Society. Stamp collecting was his hobby. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Phlegar Bogart, who he married on December 17, 1960; three children, Brenda Hall and husband, Steve of Hilliard, OH, Beverly Royals and husband, Jim of Oak Ridge, Bryan Bogart and wife, Cheri of Tuscaloosa, AL; three grandchildren, Aaron and Michael Bogart and Jordan Hall; sister, Nancy Kabrich and husband, Randy of Greensboro; and three nephews. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Danville Memorial Gardens, 510 Church Ave., Danville, VA 24541. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2011 at the home at 5925 Tarleton Dr., Oak Ridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western North Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215 or Union Grove Baptist Church, 5424 Union Grove Rd., Oak Ridge, NC 27310.
