William Clay Blackburn

KERNERSVILLE- Mr. William Clay Blackburn died Sunday October 23 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Forsyth County to the late William Henry and Pearl Norman Blackburn. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother A.D. Blackburn. Clay was a US Army veteran where he served as a military policeman. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather with a great sense of humor. He was self employed and a retired fishing guide on Santee Cooper Lakes SC where he was known as ""The Crappie King"" and was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Survivors include his wife of the home Mary Lowrey Blackburn; two daughters, Patricia ""Pat"" B. Smith and Husband Phillip of Wentworth, Debbie Blackburn Shropshire of Kernersville, one sister Sadie B. Lasley of Kernersville, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 4:00 PM Tuesday October 25 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Danny Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Greensboro 2500 Summit Ave Greensboro NC 27405 or to Bethel United Methodist Church 8424 Haw River Rd, Oak Ridge, NC 27310.
