Mr. William “Bill” G. Howell, husband of the late Hope W. Howell, died Wednesday December 13, 2023, at Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem, NC. Born in Goldsboro, NC, he was the son of the late J. Hargrave Howell and the late Myrtle Gobbel Howell Young. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from Atlanta Art Institute with a BFA degree in advertising art. After service in the US Army, he worked for the Burlington (NC) Times-News and was retired from the Winston-Salem Journal. He served as an officer for the Kidney Foundation of Forsyth, as well as the Town and Country Civic Association. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Forsyth Medical Center Auxiliary. A long-time member of Centenary United Methodist Church, he served as a member of the Administrative Board, was President of the Chapel Class Sunday School Class, and most recently served on the Senior Adult Council. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, J. Herbert Howell and James D. Howell. Mr. Howell is survived by a son, Bob (Cathy) of Charlotte, NC and two grandsons, Drew (Mary Catherine) and Avery. He is also survived by a sister, Sara H. Edwards of Goldsboro, NC and a brother, Henry G. Howell of Harrells, NC. A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Centenary United Methodist Church, with Rev. Craig Ford officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
