William "Bill" Gray Gentry

William “Bill” Gray Gentry, 90, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living. 

Bill was born in Winston-Salem on January 21, 1934 to William Gaither Gentry and Ruby Boyd Gentry. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer with Amp Inc., where he retired from after 20 years of service. Bill served his county in the United States Air Force from 1957 – 1961. 

Bill and his wife Carolyn (who passed away in 2019) loved to travel, visiting many places over the years. In earlier years, he always enjoyed hunting, fishing and day hikes throughout the mountains of North Carolina. 

In addition to his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his parents. 

Surviving family includes his two sons, Robert W. Gentry of Winston-Salem, and Gary S. Gentry (Tracy) of Durham; two grandchildren, Dana and Kendra Gentry. 

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Michael J. Gehring officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 306 S Main St, Kernersville, NC 27284. The family would like thank the staff of Arbor Ridge of Kernersville, Mallard Ridge Assisted Living and Hospice of Davidson County for their care and support.
